At Sefton Park, Liverpool, thousands of music fans gathered under a tent with not a single face-mask in sight and no social distancing enforced, as part of the government coordinated ‘Events Research Programme’.
This has seen multiple events being held across the UK, from London to Sheffield, to explore how the UK will re-adapt to live events after 21 June. Last week saw 3,000 people attend a Circus Nightclub rave, and last weekends’ Festival Republic event boasted upwards of 5,000 in attendance.
The event saw millennial indie artist Zuzu, the Wigan based four-piece The Lathums and the headline act, Stockport’s own Blossoms, grace the stage. As these bands made history as the first non-COVID restricted live gig since March 2020, millions of music fans across the country were left jealous.
A simple search on Twitter will reveal thousands of videos all gloating the atmosphere of a live gig; people on top of shoulders, plastic cups full of *slightly more expensive* booze and thousands of smiling faces as these lucky people became a part of the history books.

Not to mention they got to see Blossoms, with their killer discography guaranteed to get the crowd jumping. Their 18 song set list featured some fantastic festival favourites, such as ‘Honey Sweet’, ‘Charlemagne’ and ‘At Most A Kiss’.
However, it’s safe to say that no matter the act, this crowd would’ve been ecstatic. Whilst gigging veterans may be jealous as these select few got to experience the buzz of live music, we can also be happy in the knowledge that, if all goes to plan, we might get to experience something similar a lot sooner than expected.
