Over £26,000 has been raised for the Birmingham Hippodrome to expand its support for over 5,000 young people in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

A £20,000 target was set after the theatre joined The Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign, which is the UK’s largest online match funding campaign. In the time the campaign was active, The Big Give matched all donations made to participating charities.

The money will support the Hippodrome Education Network (HEN) programme, which aims for young people from poorer socioeconomic backgrounds to participate in workshops, digital masterclasses and career sessions.

Judith Greenburgh, the Head of Fundraising and Development at the Birmingham Hippodrome stated that “we are thrilled to have exceeded our target thanks to the donations from over 150 individuals” and that “over  the next year we will now be able to support over 5,000 young people in through HEN which is wonderful news.”

Zaylie-Dawn Wilson, the Head of Learning and Participation at the theatre, added that “keeping creativity in the curriculum has been more important than ever this year for young people.

“[These] donations will enable us to continue supporting young people’s wellbeing, confidence and help them to imagine a bright future after the pandemic.”
