GAMM Game Museum, the largest game museum in Italy, has opened its doors to the public.
On the 2nd of December, GAMM, a new gaming museum opened its doors in Rome. The largest museum of its kind in Italy, GAMM opened in the city’s historical centre, at the famous Piazza della Repubblica square.
In a press release Marco Accordi Rickards, Director of GAMM said: “GAMM is a wonderful celebration of video game culture that showcases a journey for preservation digitally and physically in a modern space. With its iconic setting within the heart of Rome, the Museum will also be a forum for entertainment, hosting cultural events and occasions. We very much look forward to welcoming visitors from around the globe and sharing pieces of game history.”
The GAMM Museum is an evolution of Vigamus – The Video Game Museum of Rome. Vigamus hosted over two million visitors from around the world since its inception in 2012.
This new museum is described as spanning 700 square meters which has been divided into two levels and three thematic areas. The first of these areas is GAMM DOME – An immersive journey through 24 digital interactive stations along with an array of unique objects, consoles and pieces. The 2nd area is PARC Path of Arcadia – which is dedicated to the golden age of coin-op games, spanning from the late ’70s through the ’80s, with some forays into the early ’90s.
The third and final area is the HIP Historical Playground. This area is entirely dedicated to gameplay and will offer guests an immersive experience that explores game structure, interaction mechanisms, and game design rules, with a detailed analysis of the historical evolution of video games, the technologies used, and the various target audiences.
The museum is designed not just for video game enthusiasts but also for families, tourists, and academics. GAMM will be open seven days a week and will cost 15 Euros for tickets.
