UNDER THE SKIN

dir. Jonathan Glazer

Finally, we come to the absolute masterpiece that is Under The Skin. Admittedly, you do have to watch it a few times in order to appreciate the brilliance of this film. Scarlett Johansson gives an absolutely mesmerising performance as an alien who comes to Earth in order to learn about humans. Most of the dialogue in the film were unscripted and filmed with hidden cameras, giving the film a sense of reality.

Johansson’s character undergoes an existential crisis, taking on traits of humans, which I think is a fantastic concept. While it failed to make back its budget at the box office, Under the Skin was a huge critical success, with critics praising the score, direction, and Johansson’s performance. It was named the best film of 2014 by 20 critics and publications and was nominated for a BAFTA for Best British Film. I would strongly urge everyone to give this film a go.
