Whilst the world remains in the midst of a pandemic, the return of some of our most beloved animated characters could not have come sooner.

Pixar Popcorn, a new animation series from Disney+ that premiered on January 22, features a collection of lively and enjoyable short episodes. As the name suggests, each of the ten bite-sized episodes will provide viewers with long-anticipated performances from a variety of familiar characters. Whether it be Dory from Finding Nemo or Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, there’s a character for everyone. Even Joe Gardner from Pixar’s newest film Soul stars in an episode named ‘Soul of the City’. Though it is unlikely that we will see his troublesome companion 22, it is certain that jazz music will feature.

All of these loveable characters shine in Pixar’s trailer, released on Tuesday evening. As we can see in each snapshot, the show is not lacking comedy or adventure. The Cars‘ characters host a dance competition. The Incredibles combat chores instead of supervillains. The toys improve their fitness. In other words, there are many recognizable day-to-day activities for viewers to relate to even if they are performed by unlikely beings. After all, we are all experiencing the unexpected at the moment!

Furthermore, as expected, the animation quality shown in the show does not falter from the immersive experiences of each counterpart film. When Pete Docter announced Pixar’s newest additions at Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, it was unclear what to expect from the new shows. However, the trailer and the show itself have more than proven the animating team’s capability. Pixar Popcorn is just the first in the list of anticipated upcoming features, and after yesterday’s premiere the words of the trailer song still ring true that “it only gets better”.

Pixar Popcorn is now available to stream on Disney+.
