The avant-pop musician and trans icon SOPHIE has died due to a severe accident.

Sophie Xeon, 34, known by her music alias SOPHIE, was a Grammy-nominee for Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides in the best dance/electronic album in 2018. Prior to this, she was known for her debut single ‘Nothing More to Say’ in 2013, and her work with famed pop star Madonna, working as a co-writer for the track ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ in 2015.

At 12pm, January 30, the Glaswegian producers label, Transgressive, put out a statement via Twitter announcing her passing.

As a musician, Sophie was very open about her transgender identity, with it playing a massive role in her music.

“Transness is taking control to bring your body more in line with your soul and spirit so the two aren’t fighting against each other and struggling to survive … It means you’re not a mother or a father – you’re an individual who’s looking at the world and feeling the world.”
