Ahead of the much-anticipated release of the latest instalment of Assassin’s Creed, entitled Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Ubisoft have announced their plans for post-launch content. This includes an exploration of modern-day France as part of the famous Viking attack on Paris, as well as a new storyline centred around a druid cult in Ireland, both of which will come as welcome additions. With the game due to launch on 10th November, however, fans will have to wait to get their hands on the first of these, with Wrath of the Druids due to release in Spring 2021. Players will also be able to get their hands on extra exclusive content through the season pass (included in the Gold and Ultimate editions of the game), including new skills, skins, and weapons for Eivor to continue exploring the Viking world.

Wrath of the Druids:

The first major expansion, expected Spring 2021, takes main character Eivor to Ireland, as they explore the lore surrounding an ancient druid cult. Through this, you will need to fight your way past ancient Gaelic Kings and through haunted forests as you seek to uncover and defeat the cult members. It is a welcome addition for those who have been seeking druid lore additions to the game since the brand’s inception.

The Siege of Paris:

In what could be one of the best additions to the franchise, The Siege of Paris recreates the famous Viking attacks into Francia and their siege of Paris. This is being hailed by Ubisoft as “the most ambitious battle in Viking history”, and this will be replicated in-game, with the new, bigger, and longer battles looking to take advantage of the new processing power of next-gen consoles.

Separate to the Season Pass, players will be rewarded with free seasonal updates, offering new game modes, including the romantic idea of Viking raiding, as well as new abilities. Season One, coming in December with the addition of the Yule Festival (a Viking staple), which will feature cosmetic upgrades, new abilities and new gear. Season two (released March 2021) will follow much the same lines, whilst adding another new game-mode for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

With the staggered addition of new content, Ubisoft seem to be trying harder than ever to inspire replay-ability in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. These DLC, alongside the choice mechanisms in-game which can fundamentally alter your experience, mean that players will be coming back to the game over and over, whilst new expansions will be able to take advantage of the powers of next-generation consoles, all of which spells a promising year for Ubisoft and the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PC from November 10 and on PlayStation 5 from November 12.
