Apple TV has set a premiere date for the highly anticipated limited drama series Lessons in Chemistry, which will star Brie Larson. The first two episodes of the series will debut on the 13 October, with new episodes dropping weekly until 24 November.

Adapted from Bonnie Garmus’ bestselling debut novel, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), an extraordinary scientist whose dreams of excelling in chemistry are met with various challenges. Set in the patriarchal society of 1960s California, Zott’s beliefs on the abilities of women constantly land her in trouble. The only female scientist in her all-male team at the renowned Hastings Research Institute, Elizabeth does not settle for the status quo.

Working under a management that pushes the societal notion that women belong in a domestic setting rather than a professional one, Elizabeth is regarded a nuisance and is soon fired from her lab. Finding herself alone, unemployed, and pregnant, she gallantly accepts a job offer to host a TV cooking show.

As her primetime show Supper at Six gains traction, Zott begins to teach a nation of disregarded housewives a lot more than the meals she cooks. Her unorthodox approach to cooking proves groundbreaking. Suddenly Elizabeth Zott is the centre of attention, finally capturing the attention of the men who have until now overlooked her ambitions.

Top Gun: Maverick’s Lewis Pullman, How to Get Away with Murder’s Aja Naomi King and The Flight Attendant’s Stephanie Koenig are also set to star in the long-awaited series. As well as starring, Academy Award winner Brie Larson is also executive producing the show alongside the book’s author Bonnie Garmus, among others.

This year has been a busy one for Larson. She has recently joined the cast of the Fast and Furious franchise, before reprising her role as Carol Danvers in the upcoming MCU blockbuster The Marvels later this year.

Lessons in Chemistry premieres on Apple TV on the 13 October 2023.
