Apple are currently offering a 3 month free trial for their streaming platform, Apple Music. The platform allows the user to access and stream millions of songs, receive personalised recommendations and connect with artists. Following the trial, if you like the service, you will be able to continue your subscription for £9.99 a month as an individual user, or £14.99 as a family.

In conjunction with the launch on 30th June, The Indiependent has decided to run a series of ‘5 A Day’ features. We’re endeavouring to get our ‘5 A Day’ of artists we haven’t really listened to before by listening to the radio stations the service provides. First up, is the alternative genre…

5. Empty Nesters // Toro y Moi

Chazwick Bradley Bundick, better known by his stage name Toro y Moi, is an American recording artist and producer. A versatile musician, his work has been categorised as ‘chillwave’ ‘funk’ ‘disco’ and ‘R’n’B’ and finally, ‘pop’.

‘Empty Nesters’ is the lead single from his fifth studio album What For?, which was released in April earlier this year. The track floats on a feel-good melody, with the female backing vocal inviting comparison to Smith Westerns. The drawling, deliberately lazy quality to the track – which transports the listener to a place in the sun – is evocative of the New Pornographers, as well.

We’re impressed with the apparent versatility of Bundick, and will be sure to check out more of his back catalogue.
