Amelia Gann’s critically acclaimed debut comedy Dreamworld will be performed at the Camden Fringe Festival in August.

This one-woman show tells the story of Cathy who, dissatisfied with her current job at the local leisure centre, yearns for stardom. Unfortunately, every time she steps on stage, something dreadful occurs. As audiences are immersed in the realm of the vibrant and quirky, we join an array of eclectic characters for a dysfunctional dance party, where we learn the story of Cathy’s youth, queer awakening, and complicated relationship with Zumba.

In what is described as a “fever dream” of dance routines and iconic pop songs set against a backdrop of suburban village life, Gann’s comedy promises a show that’s “messy, camp, desperate, confused, entitled and kind of scary.”

Development for Dreamworld began towards the end of 2020, officially making its debut at the Pleasance Theatre, London as part of the Fringe Future’s Festival. Following its success, the show has since toured Edinburgh Fringe 2021, Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, Rich Mix London and The Wardrobe Theatre Bristol this year.

The piece has received stellar reviews across various news outlets. One writer from the British Theatre Guide described it as “gleefully funny” while another from The Theatre Gal praised its proficient craftsmanship: “With sharp, punchy puns, skilful character hopping and memorable choreography… A terrific watch that had me laughing out loud.”
