The winners of The Game Awards 2023 have been announced. Broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles the awards, now in their tenth year, celebrate the best in gaming and Esports over the last twelve months.
Among the games taking home multiple awards were Baldur’s Gate 3, which led the field with six wins, including Best Community, Best Multiplayer and Best RPG, the Players’ Voice Award, and the coveted Game of the Year. Alan Wake II also won multiple awards, including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative and Best Art Direction. Other winners included Hi-Fi Rush, Tchia and Sea of Stars.
As for individual awards, Neil Newbon was named Best Performer for their role as Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3 while Ironmouse was crowned this year’s Content Creator of the Year and Christine “Potter” Chi won the award for Best Esports Coach for her work with Evil Geniuses. Composer Masayoshi Soken was awarded Best Score & Music for Final Fantasy XVI.
The awards also featured performances from Poets of the Fall as the Old Gods of Asgard from Alan Wake 2, Loren Allred, who performed the theme song for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with the Game Awards orchestra and Hellung, who performed an exclusive piece from Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga.
There were also a few surprises, such as the reveals of God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla – a free DLC coming December 12, OD – a project in development for Xbox by Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele, the announcement that Arkane Lyon and Bethesda are working on a Marvel’s Blade game and Tales of Kenzera: Zau – a side-scrolling adventure dealing with grief led by Abubakar Salim’s Sergent Studios, along with more details from WarFrame, Skull & Bones, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Final Fantasy XVI DLC.
