Snowpiercer has been renewed for a third season ahead of its season two premiere on Netflix on January 26.

The TV series is produced by CJ Entertainment and Tomorrow Studies, with ITV organizing its distribution across international channels including Netflix.

With its first season reaching 32 million viewers, season two is set to take the world by storm.

Snowpiercer is based on the French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige, by Jacques Lob and the 2013 film developed by Graeme Manson and Josh Friedman and directed by Bong Joon Ho (Parasite).

This post-apocalyptic drama takes place seven years after the world becomes a frozen and desolate wasteland, with its surviving population navigating their new lives onboard a moving train.

Containing 1001 carriages, the passengers on this train experience apocalyptic fears, class struggles, murder, mystery, and love.

The season one finale left viewers on the edge of their seats as producers controversially introduced a new, second train, led by the beloved Mr. Wilford.

With the global success of its first season, the second season began production on 21 October 2019, with filming expected to finish on 20 March 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, filming was pushed back to July 2020 when episodes nine and ten were completed.

Season two will introduce Sean Bean (best known for his role as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones) as Joseph Wilford and Alexandra Cavill as Melanie’s daughter.

Show developer Graeme Manson claimed that Mr. Wilford will be “dastardly and fun and very well-dressed”.

“In season two, an entirely new power struggle emerges, causing a dangerous rift as people are divided between their loyalty to Layton and to Mr. Wilford.”

With Coronavirus restrictions preventing the immediate production of season three, it is assumed that filming will begin at the end of this summer.

This is an exciting time for fans who are not yet convinced whether their favourite characters will be returning for a new season.

Featuring Sean Bean, Jennifer Connelly, and Daveed Diggs, this series is a must-see post-apocalyptic drama for 2021.
