Download For: Playlists Made by Humans
Most Internet radio services provide playlists created using complex algorithms. 8tracks sought to change that. All of the playlists available on 8tracks have been curated by their users. The compilations, containing 8 or more songs, are then tagged making it easy for others to find them. Simply type in an artist, a genre or a mood, somebody, somewhere has made a playlist for it! If you’re up for creating your own mix you’ll need to head on over to the full site.
Unfortunately 8tracks has recently ended their partnership with SoundCloud. Previously many of the songs used in playlists were taken directly from SoundCloud. Hopefully, this won’t have a massive impact on the material that’s available to us. The team has stated that they are in the process of expanding their own library and furthering license agreements. Fingers crossed.
In the meantime, there’s many playlists to choose from but we thought we’d start you off with a few of our own…..
The first playlist is from Tom Grantham, including RTA, Rome Fortune and Boody to name a few.
Tom says: This is a mixture of new stuff I’ve been getting into recently with specific songs I can’t seem to ever get away from, usually because intricate/flat-out weird production appeals to some horribly obsessive part of my personality. All of these are infectious in their own unique ways, and I can only hope they make an obsessive convert out of you too x
Next we’ve got a mix from Matthew Smith featuring the likes of The Cribs, Leon Bridges and Manic Street Preachers
Matthew Says: This year’s been a surprisingly good one for music, so here’s a smattering of contemporary boomers, as well as a few old favourites I’ve recently had on repeat. I just wish I could have more than 8. If you like weird post-punk, west-coast soul and traditional Irish folk, you’re in for a treat.
Lastly, here’s my playlist.
Over the past few months Aquilo, Tourist and Gallant have all released some really great music that’s definitely worth listening to. Along with those tracks I’ve included an older song from my favorite Swedish Pop duo and a brilliant JackLNDN remix, amongst others. While most of these songs probably fall somewhere under the vague classification of “electronic”, I won’t be so quick to define them in one word. To me, all of these artists have created something really special and I hope you’ll enjoy their work as much as I have.
