Foundations by Wrong Tree Theatre will be branching out of its Durham home to perform at both The New Wimbledon Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year.

In the play, audiences are presented with two distinct worlds, existing side by side, until one day when someone crosses the barrier. Boundaries between machine and human become blurred through the unlikely bond between the two main characters; MJ, a human whose mundane job leaves her feeling like a robot and Pins, a robot who only knows about humans through stories. Through the mediums of physical theatre and bespoke puppets, their production challenges the idea of what it means to be human within a technological era.

After three sell-out performances at the Assembly Rooms Theatre, Wrong Tree Theatre will be bringing Foundations to The New Wimbledon Theatre as part of their #FromTheFringe season on 5 June, before heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 4-21 August.

Their production is the first collaboration between Wrong Tree Theatre, Durham’s physical theatre company, and Ultraviolet Productions, an emerging company which focuses on storytelling through a combination of traditional spoken-word theatre and alternative expressive art forms including music, movement, and animation.

The entire cast and production team is made up of Durham students and alumni, who have experience in participating in festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Durham Drama Festival and National Student Drama Festival.

Tickets for the New Wimbledon Theatre showing are available from ATG’s website
