THE LA’S – Feelin’

The La’s was eventually released after record label execs tired of singer Lee Mavers’ constant tinkering. While he was typically dissatisfied, ‘There She Goes’ – a tale of heroin abuse hidden away in a twinkling guitar motif – became a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic. The album itself also proved commercially and critically lauded, but consistency single-wise wasn’t maintained, even with the taut rockabilly of ‘Feelin”.

UK chart placing: 43 Indiependent rating: 7/10

Good or bad: Feelin’ has a skiffle spirit and a catchy, Beatles-esque guitar riff that Jake Bugg has spent most of his career trying to emulate.
