FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE – Mexican Wine
A cross between The Cars and Weezer, anyone worth their indie salt knows Fountains of Wayne were a rock institution way before ‘Stacy’s Mom’. Once the world was listening, however, the white-collar wryness didn’t translate quite as well – ‘Mexican Wine’ tried to further the ‘Stacy’ formula, with a suitably brash video, but the casual fan felt there was little else to see once Rachel Hunter was gone.

Good or bad: A sugary blast of bittersweet rock, ‘Mexican Wine’ has a breezy chorus that begats the silliness of ‘Stacy’, but is perhaps one for the power pop purists.
