The Watermill Theatre has officially announced three initial productions that will run as part of its 2021 autumn season, reopening its doors in Newbury to the indoor theatre for the first time in nine months.

Lone Flyer by Ade Morris will take to the stage from 10 to 25 September with two socially distanced performances each week. It was due to run earlier in the year but had to be cut short and postponed as a result of the pandemic. It follows the inspirational story of British pilot Amy Johnson, during the outbreak of the Second World War.

The show is directed by Lucy Betts, designed by Isobel Nicolson and starring Hannah Edwards and Benedict Salter.

David Suchet returns to the stage with his solo tour Poirot and More, A Retrospective on 5 October for a three night run, looking back on his career and most beloved performances.

Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, a one-woman, one-musician take on the classic tale, will play on 8 and 9 October.

Further shows in the autumn season are to be revealed in September.

Artistic director Paul Hart said: “It’s a symbolic moment to be able to welcome audiences back inside our beautiful auditorium after such a long hiatus and another successful outdoor summer season.”

“Our staff have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to find inventive ways of creating work for audiences. We cannot wait to welcome you back.”

Tickets for the upcoming shows can be purchased from the Watermill Theatre website.
