GamesRadar today announced that public voting has opened for the 2020 Golden Joystick Awards, which will be an online ceremony as with similar awards events this year.
18 categories are available for the public to vote on, including awards for Nintendo, Playstation, PC and Xbox Games of the Year respectively. Additional key categories available for the public to have their say on include Best Indie Game, the Most Wanted Game and Best Multiplayer Game. On top of this, two new awards are up for grabs this year with Best Game Community and Best Family Game commendations.
With this announcement, the full nominees have been released by GamesRadar on their website. On this front, the big news is that six games, The Last of Us: Part II, Hades, Paradise Killer, Fall Guys, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ghost of Tsushima all share the prize for most nominations with four respectively. Other notable games with multiple nominations include Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Fortnite, and Half-Life: Alyx.
The Ultimate Game of the Year and Best New Streamer/Broadcaster awards are yet to be announced, but will be also voted on by the public when made available. This is particularly pertinent for the former as GamesRadar says it “allow(s) us to include more games from the key winter release window.” Other awards to be given out at the Golden Joysticks include Outstanding Contribution, Breakthrough Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Critics’ Choice Award and Best Performer.
Last year’s big stories included the critically acclaimed remaster of Resident Evil 2 picking up the Ultimate Game of the Year, Sega legend Yu Suzuki receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, Days Gone being the only title to pick up more than one award and Cyberpunk 2077 winning the Most Wanted Award.
The online ceremony is scheduled to take place in November 2020 and voting can be done here. The 16 categories available for voting are as follows:
- Best Audio
