Remedy Entertainment plans to scrap the inclusion of David Bowie’s 1969 hit ‘Space Oddity’ in Alan Wake from all PC versions of the game (including Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG).
The move was announced on the studio’s X account, which reveals that the update will take place on September 10th and that the song is being removed due to changes in licensing. This change won’t affect Alan Wake: Remastered. An original song, ‘Strange Moons’ by Petri Alanko, will take the place of Bowie’s psychedelic folk track. Alanko has previously worked with Remedy on a number of games, including Control and Alan Wake 2.
Playing out over the closing credits of the game, the song plays an important role in Alan Wake, though Alanko has teased that its replacement will have a similar atmosphere. He also revealed in a post on X that ‘Strange Moon’ was originally set to appear in one of Alan Wake‘s levels, but that the level was ultimately scrapped before the game’s release.
Just last month Remedy made the the announcement that it was entering a partnership with Annapurna for their new game Control 2, which would involve the latter company having involvement in developing film and TV projects for the Alan Wake and Control games.
