He’s featured in several hit Hollywood films and television shows in the last two decades. Now Elliot Page will be the star of his new memoir, Pageboy, the UK rights to which have been acquired by Transworld Books in a 16-way auction.
According to Page’s American publisher, Flatiron Books, Page’s book will touch on topics from mental health to love and Hollywood, with a particular focus being placed on Page’s experience coming out as transgender. The book will be released in 2023.
Bobby Mostyn-Owen, one of the editors behind the acquisition of Page’s book, told The Bookseller that “Elliot’s memoir blew me away from its first page, striking heart and head in equal measure. I can’t wait for readers to discover his voice and hear his story. This will be an important and impactful book, one that Transworld will publish fiercely with all of our collective pride, joy and might”.
Deadline reported that the book will include descriptions of the homophobia that Page faced growing up, and how that discrimination persisted in Hollywood, including by fellow stars.
Page first shot to the spotlight after his Oscar-nominated turn as the titular character in 2007’s Juno. Other famous films of Page’s include 2010’s Inception and 2016’s Tallulah. Page is also an accomplished television actor, known for roles in Pit Pony as well as, most recently, the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy.
Page initially came out as a woman-identifying lesbian in 2014. Later, in December of 2020, Page came out as a transgender man. The move made him one of the most famous transgender men in America, an experience Page will speak about in his upcoming memoir.
At the time of his coming out, Page wrote on his social media, “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows, and the more I thrive.”
