Fresh from the Oscar nominated success of his previous venture BlacKkKlansman, Spike Lee’s latest film Da 5 Bloods is heading for Netflix, with the trailer dropping to tease us until release.

Da 5 Bloods is set to follow four African American army veterans who make their way back to Vietnam to find the remains of their squad leader, played by Chadwick Boseman of Marvel’s Black Panther, as well as the promise of treasure that was buried in the jungle during their service.

While the Vietnam War is always a particularly controversial subject, Lee’s directorial style will place a raised focus on the racial tensions that gripped the United States during that period as black soldiers question why they are fighting for a country that has always oppressed them. With the resignation of Richard Nixon and the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. serving as a number of weighty backdrops to this story, from the trailer alone, Da 5 Bloods is promising a thorough examination to an overlooked narrative in the history of the Vietnam War with plenty of action, heartbreak and psychedelia to go around.

The film stars Jonathan Majors, Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. among its ensemble cast and will be available to stream on Netflix on 12 June.
