A new trailer has dropped for Free Guy, which sees Ryan Reynolds star as a NPC (non-playable character) who works as a bank teller in a city called Free City.
Soon, he becomes aware that he is in an open world video game akin to the Grand Theft Auto series and some of the The Sims games. After a new programme is installed by programmers Milly and Keys, Guy takes it up himself to become the hero.
Free Guy is produced by Ryan Reynolds alongside Shawn Levy. The soundtrack is composed by Christophe Beck. The story was formed by Matt Lieberman and the screenplay written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn. Director Shawn Levy is known for ventures such as Cheaper by the Dozen, the Night at the Museum trilogy, Stranger Things and Date Night.
This isn’t Ryan Reynolds’ first rodeo in a video game movie. He previously appeared in Detective Pikachu as the voice of the titular character and Tim Goodman’s father, Harry Goodman.
Considering this film is based on video games, it is apt that many gaming YouTubers such as Richard Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Imane “Pokimane” Anys, Sèan William “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin (who provides the voice for Q*bert) and Lannan “LazarBeam” Eacott will make cameos in the film. They will be featured alongside the rest of the cast, which includes Taika Waititi as Antoine, Jodie Comer as Milly/Molotov Girl and Joe Keery as Keys.
According to Jacksepticeye’s Instagram and one of his recent YouTube videos, he is confirmed to be in the movie as an old-school video game character named Q*bert (who also appeared in Wreck-It Ralph and Pixels).
The movie was originally scheduled to be released on 3 July, but was delayed due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Free Guy is now set to hit our screens on 11 December.
