Everybody Still Hates Chris, a new autobiographical animated comedy from Chris Rock and Comedy Central, has received its first trailer and premiere, ahead of an undetermined full release on Paramount+.

The show serves as a revival of the live-action comedy series Everybody Hates Chris, which ran from 2005-2009, and centred around the teenage years of comedian Chris Rock, who also narrated the show. The show helped to launch the career of Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary), as well as to cement Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, White Chicks) as a comedic actor after his years in the NFL. The show also starred Tichina Arnold (Little Shop of Horrors) as Chris’ mother Rochelle, Tequan Richmond and Imani Hakim as Chris’ siblings Drew and Tonya, and Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) as Chris’ best friend Greg.

The trailer for the revival has Rock promise that he still has “more stories to tell about my family and the whole damn neighbourhood”, suggesting that this series will tell new original stories about Chris Rock’s youth, rather than animating stories we’ve previously seen. Entertainment Weekly reported that it will pick up from where the Everybody Hates Chris finale ended. The comedian is also set to provide the voiceover in the same style as the original show. Tichina Arnold and Terry Crews are set to reprise their roles as Chris’ parents, and Jacqueline Mazzarella returns as school Principal Morello, while new young actors step into the fold to voice the teen characters.

Tim Johnson Jr. will voice the teenage Chris, Ozioma Akagha as Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh as Drew, and Gunnar Sizmore as Greg. Guest stars for the show include Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Bottoms) Jackee Harry (Sister, Sister), and Busta Rhymes.

First announced in 2021, the show is written and produced by Sanjay Shah, who previously executive produced and worked as co-showrunner of the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ animated comedy Central Park. While the pilot of Everybody Still Hates Chris premiered this week on Comedy Central (25 September), the full show will be released on Paramount, although the date is yet determined.

Original episodes of Everybody Hates Chris are available to watch now on ITVX.
