The Jonas Brothers have released their new single ‘Wings’ ahead of their sixth studio album The Album, which will drop later this year.
The band rose to fame in 2005 through their appearances on Disney Channel and subsequent music releases. In 2013, they disbanded in favour of pursuing solo projects before reuniting in 2019 for the release of a new album entitled Happiness Begins.
Coming in at just under two minutes, their new track is short but sweet and rich with romantically sentimental lyrics – something which may not come as a shock to long-standing fans. Their previous album includes a handful of tender love songs, such as ‘Love Her‘ and ‘Hesitate‘. Going back even further, their Disney repertoire consists of hits like ‘Lovebug’ and ‘When You Look Me in the Eyes’, which tell tales of infatuated youngsters.
This new musical direction, however, of the song and forthcoming album is something that departs from the group’s previous track record. Produced by Jon Bellion, who has worked with the likes of Eminem, Justin Bieber and Jason Derulo, the track combines the band’s classic, effortless harmonies with a mellow funk-driven beat.
The song’s light-hearted, up-tempo nature makes for easy listening as the single seems to lean into a seventies theme. It has a vintage and almost nostalgic quality to it, resulting in a single that is enticing for Jonas Brothers fans of every generation. The trio have drawn inspiration from the three-piece brothers band the Bee Gees who were a “huge influence in [their] lives”. Their new single has been described by the boys themselves as “the perfect start to this new chapter”, in which we expect to see a blend of influences from the classic pop-rock genre with a redefining modern edge
The Album will be released on May 12 this year.
