Track Review: Warm // SON

SON is an up and coming duo from London consisting of Daniel White and Ryan Bunney. They make ambient minimalistic indie rock and recently released their first track in just over a year, ‘Warm’, recorded in their bedroom.

It is clear the band have carried on with the minimal production, bringing a laid back feel. ‘Warm’ takes you into a deep trance, driven by a big synth reminiscent of something from the 1980s. While the synth feels overpowering at times, it brings out the ethereal atmosphere; the reverb on the vocals and the creative drum patterns sound massive.

Lyrically the track compares the end of a relationship to a fire: “You stand and watch it burn / You say I will never learn”, and this is captured nicely in a melancholic minor key, setting the tone for the rest of the song.

‘Warm’ combines SON’s love of atmospheric music with beautiful rhythmic textures. If they can come up with more creative patterns and compositions, the future looks bright for them.
