Track Review: Think Yourself Lucky // Frankie and the Heartstrings

Sunderland indie-poppers Frankie and the Heartstrings have enjoyed a relatively successful career. Since releasing the excellent Hunger in 2011, and The Days Run Away in 2013, they set up their own record shop as a reaction to the lack of record shops in the UK. The reaction was positive, furthermore enabling them to support bands including Dutch Uncles and Martha. Last month, the band released ‘Think Yourself Lucky’; a teaser from their third album Decency, available in July on Wichita Records.

The track is noticeably upbeat; the brass section giving a soulful feel, while the production is reminiscent of bands including Dexy’s Midnight Runners. The inclusion of Ross Millard (formerly of The Futureheads) adds a fresh approach to their sound. Judging by the positive vibes and a typically infectious hook, this could be a big release for Frankie and the Heartstrings, perhaps giving them a wider appeal.
