‘The Way You’d Love Her’ is the latest track taken from Mac Demarco’s upcoming mini-album Another One. Having been off the road for less than 5 minutes, the rocker has given his eager fanbase an insight into what to expect from his 8 track cassette recording.
In his trademark manner, the song rolls along in a haze of Hawaiian punch, led by Demarco’s rough and tumble vocals. The song is almost hypnotic as you’re lulled into the illusion of summer afternoons, sipping a mojito out on the deck. This is broken every so often by the Canadian rocker’s signature yelp combined with an almost ironic guitar solo. The jizz-jazzer has stuck to his guns, giving us his standard high school love ballad. The nice thing about the song is it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Demarco teaches us a valid lesson in love whilst still managing to make the piece sound like the soundtrack to a 80s feel-good package holiday advert.
Although generally upbeat, the track has an underlying melancholic feel. His crinkled, tired voice is wonderfully charming and walks hand in hand with his unique style of song writing. Demarco’s talent lies in his simplicity. Unlike most artists he writes simply and delivers. Unafraid of what the world thinks, he is just happy with what he does. If this track is anything to go by, it raises the exciting prospect of bigger things to come. I think it’s fair to say that we are now even more excited for what could be the pineapple punch pop album we have all been waiting for.
