Singer-songwriter and musician Laufey has returned with the announcement of a new album, with the first single being ‘Silver Lining’. This particular track embodies the comfort and recognition that one finds with love.

Through lyrics such as “what a miracle / I found a darling” and religious imagery like “when you go to hell / I’ll be there with you”, Laufey cleverly creates an atmosphere of fulfilment and gratitude. The reference to a place of eternal damnation in such an undisturbed and composed manner is extremely important to notice. It conveys Laufey’s belief that any place with her lover is a desirable and safe place. The lyricism in this track and in Laufey’s discography is beautiful to say the least.

The gentle instruments which are typical of Laufey’s music convey the mental repose that one finds from the introduction of (romantic) love into their lives. Through the lyric “We’ve been kissing on the playground, acting like little kids / Making dirty jokes and getting away with it”, we learn that Laufey feels the way that she did when she was a child: calm, peaceful and without topics to ruminate upon.

The music video that Laufey produced to promote her song also reinforces this message. With the help of the likes of Jason Lester and Junia Lin, the music video depicts adults wearing comical costumes (there was someone who was dressed like a horse)!. This proves that Laufey believes that a person who is in love has reached a level of peace that is achieved once in childhood and rarely achieved again.

Laufey’s new track encompasses the feeling of serenity and tranquility that love brings to one’s life.
