If you’re not familiar with FEMME her music, circulated by artists like MØ, is full of electro rhythms and dream-pop ambiances which has seen tracks ‘Fever Boy’ and ‘High’ become two of the biggest underground hits of 2014. Recently supporting Charli XCX on her North American tour, FEMME has begun her musical campaign for this year by performing a series of gigs and premiering her new single ‘S.O.S’.
Opening with a powerful call from the drums and bold lyrical response, FEMME immediately presents the track as an audacious anthem of rebellion and angst. It sees herself and the dancers – aka the ‘Bullet Girls’ – striding towards the camera, through barren terrain through the smog of a pink flare in the track’s music video. The chorus is extremely catchy with the repeated spelling out of ‘S.O.S BABY’ demanding some form of recital which is most likely to be chanting back the lyrics. FEMME’s image reveals a lot about her act, for starters by technically calling yourself ‘WOMAN’ you have to be as bold as the statement you’re making – something which is certainly achieved.These bold statements come across clearly in S.O.S through the poignant electronic synth riffs, powerful vocals and strong motifs of female empowerment. It’s basically a message to a lover, a lover that’s no longer wanted with FEMME making this clear through expressing that “you’re dangerous and I don’t need that”.

‘S.O.S’ has been produced by not only FEMME herself but also been influenced by a variety of producers who’ve worked with big names like Sam Smith and, due for release on May 4th, it will be very surprising if we don’t see the track entering the charts let alone being another edition to her successful underground repertoire.
