Forgotten Shores were formed in 2013, but are making waves on the local scene. They played the Introducing stage at Butserfest, in addition to various shows around Southampton and Portsmouth. This includes a support slot for Prolong the Agony and Our Hollow, Our Home in November.
Their track ‘Release’ was brought out in July, and demonstrates the band’s potential. It opens up with a groovy riff; the musicianship is fluid, with a multitude of guitar licks that are refreshingly reminiscent of Killswitch Engage. The breakdown and clean vocals also incorporate a slight Letlive influence.
The lyrics could be about overcoming depression, with the protagonist frustrated about feeling hateful. “Drink to forget I’m alone / Smoke to find comfort in sleep / My days are numbered if I cannot find peace”. The downtuned guitars and heavy instrumentation reflect this, the song ending on a positive note when Reece Hayton screams, “I will not hate myself”.
‘Release’ is a track that most people will relate to. The honest, raw approach to their music is sure to gain them fans and they will be ones to watch in the metalcore scene.
