The frantic and ferocious ‘Poison’ is the latest release from Teesside DIY punks Mouses.
Steven Bardgett and Nathan Duff are the duo behind the Weezer meets lo-fi track, as they pull both together in a barrage of fuzz. There are plenty of transatlantic vibes on show, with more than a hint of Ty Segall and fellow garage rocker King Tuff’s guitar licking.

Distorted and barely-audible vocals are well-covered ground now, but there’s always a feeling the bands making this noise sometimes play it too ‘safe’. Thankfully, ‘Poison’ pulsates and progresses from its opening riff, weaving its raw integrity with Bardgett’s screeching voice.
It’s a bit wacky. But that’s exactly what it wants to be. It’s what new-punk is centred around and Mouses know this. Yet perhaps wearing their influences a little too heavily on their sleeves.
Lyrically, the song is built upon drugs and their relationship – of lack there of – with anxiety. The two piece are certainly aiming for punk, but have found a real talent for creating a stunning pop melody as shown on this latest offering.
Mouses are currently on tour and ‘Poison’, along with its insanely catchy hooks and fuzzed out guitars, is tailor made for their energetic live performances.
