Track Review: Pharmacist // Alvvays

“I know you’re back” are the opening words of Alvvays’ first song since 2017’s Antisocialites, before a roar of guitar noise buries singer Molly Rankin’s vocals. With their new album Blue Rev slated for an October release and an accompanying US tour, Alvvays are set for their long-awaited return.

‘Pharmacist’ is short and sweet, arriving at just over two minutes. The track hints at an evolution of the band – think ‘In Undertow’ turned up to 11, with a rip-roaring guitar solo at its end. However, Alvvays bring together the new sound with their signature dreamy twee. The song is classic Alvvays – undeniably cool and nostalgic, perfect to listen to as summer comes to an end.

According to live previews of new material, Blue Rev will be their loudest work yet, but as catchy and cosy as anything they’ve ever done.
