Track Review: Neverland // Hannah Jean

It is quite rare that you come across a young, underground artist with as much talent as Hannah Jean. The 18-year-old pianist apparently wrote and recorded ‘Neverland’ within two days and it is nothing short of amazing.

The song is reminiscent both of Regina Spektor – in its heavily beautiful piano work – and Gabrielle Aplin in her vocal abilities. Her voice is beautiful, effortlessly floating over the melody and pitching in gorgeous breathy notes. There is a definite maturity to both her sound and her lyrics, rare in most young women her age.

The song, as the title suggests, is revolved around an expansive avant-garde fantasy of a future she hopes to see for herself. Spinning out a tale of a marriage and child laced in delicate piano work and rolling melody, Hannah Jean creates a new spin on Peter Pan’s Neverland in a modernised future romance.
