“If you like bass, you’ve come to the right place”, bellows High Tyde’s frontman Cody Mathews’, as the heavy intro of their new single ‘Mustang Japan’ permeates the sticky air of their latest London appearance. The Brighton quartette have just released their new EP ‘FUZZ’, boasting four pounding tracks, with ‘Mustang Japan’ arguably the most audacious.

The song begins with electronic whistling, conjuring similar vibes to that of The Neighborhood. However, soon the aggressive lyrics promote connotations of the Arctic Monkeys, “Take take take take take anything you want / Cuz I don’t care, I don’t live anymore”. Effortlessly, ‘Mustang Japan’ makes you want to rock back and forth in time to the catchy beat, whilst violently shouting “BANG BANG”, simultaneously brandishing fake gun hands. The bridge, “You think you got it, you think you got / You think you got it, really, have you got it?” creates an accusatory sentiment. The song culminates in a crescendo of sound, thus leaving the listener to wonder; do they really have ‘it’?
