‘Mountain Soda’ is the debut single from Liverpool indie quintet SCREENTALK. The track, much of the pre-production for which took place on Zoom, came together during what has been a turbulent time for musicians (new and old) and non-music folk alike.

The track is engaging and electric, a blend of catchy bassline, thundering drums, synth melodies and distinctive vocal; it’s the kind of track that drags in you in on first listen. Throughout the track, lead singer Sean Currie’s soaring vocals guide the listener through the emotional and impactful lyrics: “I feel life was laughing around me”.

Describing the song, Currie explains: “The song is about the realisation that a bond has been broken and won’t ever be fixed.”

“Something that I always struggled with was worrying about what other people thought; the line in the chorus ‘life was laughing around me’ is a reference to that. You see people posting their perfect lives on social media and once this tough period in my life came about I didn’t have the emotional tools to deal with it. It’s something that I’ve gotten over in recent years. Knowing that everyone has struggles and there’s always someone who has felt the same way.”

Whilst this is just SCREENTALK’s debut track, it shows they are a band we should be keeping an eye on.
