After making a thrilling return with their EP Escaping from A Violent Time, Vol.2, and follow up single ‘Nu Me Nu You’, brothers-come-collaborators, Bad Sounds, have kicked the new year off with their latest single ‘More Than I Can Afford’.

Taking inspiration from the cost of living crisis in the U.K, the track touches on the complex and often conflicting feelings many people will be experiencing at the moment as a result.

Of their new track, the band explained “Being poor and living in an expensive city. Plus trying to eat healthy, not trash the environment, buy organic foods, and support local businesses. These are all things that we try really hard to do in our everyday lives, but it kind of feels unattainable to maintain the moral standards we set ourselves. So we end up feeling really guilty all the time for not being able to live up to that code of ethics every second of every day. This problem has only really been compounded by the ever increasing financial divide in the UK. Hence “I bet a clean conscience costs more than I can afford”. You just end up doing your best and lying to yourself about your shortcomings.”

Picking up where they left off with their last single, ‘More Than I Can Afford’ is littered with fun instrumentals and upbeat, captivating vocal harmonies. It might be inspired by pretty bleak times, but the song still manages to be the musical pick-me-up that many of us need right now.

Accompanying the track is a quirky and colourful visualiser, which perfectly captures the band’s unique sound and style that has continued since their debut way back in 2017.

The dynamic duo haven’t changed their sound much since they first burst on to the scene but, with their latest offering, they prove ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’.
