Track Review: Johannesburg // Bang Bang Romeo

‘Johannesburg’ is the latest track from the Sheffield-hailing four-piece Bang Bang Romeo, and it’s so full of power and class that it could very well work as the theme for a James Bond film. Lead singer Anastasia Walker’s strong, soulful vocals mix beautifully with the song’s huge production that clearly takes influence from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and, perhaps less clearly, the soundtrack to a Tarantino film (they say they’re fans, proven even further by the accompanying music video).

The song wastes no time in grabbing the listener’s attention as it quickly takes off into an epic rock-pop ballad full of big brass, twanging guitars and even a mariachi horn, giving it that cinematically psychedelic ‘60s vibe the band are quickly becoming renowned for. There’s slivers of different genres all swirled in, but at its core ‘Johannesburg’ is pure rock ’n’ roll at the slickest level. Expect big things from these four.
