She may not have been around for very long, but Dakota Sixx is a name that should be on everyone’s lips.

Before releasing the double single ‘Innocence/Lost Ya’, the Birmingham-born EDM vocalist/songwriter moved to London to immerse herself in the flourishing UK electronic scene, and the result has paid off splendidly.

‘Innocence’ is a gorgeous but emotional brooder, with a grime-inspired beat and melancholy hook that dances hauntingly underneath lyrics about a toxic relationship. It hits hard, especially if you can relate to its meaning. Meanwhile, with its mellow groove and distant vocals, ‘Lost Ya’ offers a bouncing but simmering sense of atmosphere that makes it the perfect addition to any chilled out electronica playlists.

There’s a fiery sense of ambition in the independent Sixx that’s not often seen these days, and it’s refreshing, to say the least. On her website, she says she aims to “write, produce, record and deal with the business aspects of her music career without relying on a third party”. If her music is anything to go by, she’s going to be something pretty special.

You can find Dakota Sixx on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.
