Track Review: Great Escape // Saint Raymond

‘Great Escape’ is Saint Raymond’s latest single, released from his debut album Young Blood. Callum Borrows, the voice and heart behind Saint Raymond, had emerged fiercely into the indie-pop music scene. It is also no surprise that he hails from Nottingham – a clear source of fresh young talent.

A superb indie-pop anthem, ‘Great Escape’ encapsulates the distinct vocals of Burrows, paired with uplifting, passionate lyrics, “I see a light to guide us through the dark / this is our great escape”. However, the well worn path of existential crisis’s (“where do we go to find all the answers?”) and breaking free from the constraints and pressures of modernity explored by Burrows, leaves something to be desired in the department of originality.

‘Great Escape’ isn’t as optimistic as Saint Raymond’s other works, such as ‘Everything She Wants’, but the catchy melodies and classic indie sound make for a well-sculpted specimen of alternative pop.
