A few months ago in one of Kaytranada‘s BBC Radio 1 Residency shows, the artist dropped in a clip of the song ‘Girl’, which he produced with The Internet. But the song was not released until just recently, only days before The Internet dropped their debut album Ego Death on the 29th June.
The Internet is a soul/tip-hop band consisting of former Odd Future members Syd the Kid and Matt Martians, alongside four others. In the song, Syd sings about her dream girl, instantly hinting towards a sort of dreamy-hallucinative side to the song. The track is a smooth piece of neo-soul that you can easily lose yourself in. Syd’s whispery vocals are mesmerising and blend perfectly with the slow, chilled-out vibes emitted from the beat produced by Kaytranada.
Kaytranada builds the beat up at times with the help of a lush synth-scape where it’s needed, but never does Syd’s delicate voice feel overpowered – resulting in a cool groove for this summer heatwave. ‘Girl’ is a funky new jam that you should definitely check out.
