Track Review: Felonious Punk // Post War Glamour Girls

The newest track from this Leeds foursome, Post War Glamour Girls, goes from nought to a hundred in a fraction of a second, kicking off in style with a proper face-melter of a guitar riff. And it never slows down from there; the drumbeat, bold and brash, drives the song forward at breakneck speed, as the intricate lyrics of frontman James Smith draw us further and further in.

‘Felonious Punk’ has been called a “change in direction” from their 2014 debut album, Pink Fur, but it would be more accurate to describe it as an intensification of its biggest crescendos, into just under three minutes of raw (and very loud) emotion.

The snarling vocals and rough-edged guitar riffs that define this track means it occasionally comes dangerously close to veering into ‘screamo’ territory, and a whole album like this might run the risk of frazzling the brain of all those who listen to it. But as a one-off, ‘Felonious Punk’ is an inescapably awesome track, and their upcoming album Feeling Strange ought to be bigger andĀ better than what PWGG have done before.
