Track Review: En Forma // Hinds

Spanish duo Hinds have been a staple of the European music scene since the release of their industry-standard-setting debut record Leave Me Alone almost a decade ago. Since then, the band have gone on to support the likes of Coldplay and The Strokes on tour, release three albums, sell out nearly 500 shows globally, and even had brand collaborations with Chanel.

Following on from their surprise collaboration with the lo-fi artist Beck (his most poignant track, ‘Loser’ which features Spanish lyrics) on the breezy ‘Boom Boom Back’, Hinds are back with their third single of the year – ‘En Forma’. And not ones to shy away from features, their upcoming record VIVA HINDS (due out September 6th) also includes Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten (on ‘Stranger’).

‘En Forma’ (translating to ‘fit’), is the outfit’s first release to be sung entirely in Spanish. The cut details the chaos of being a young woman in the 21st century, and this is reflected in punchy erratic drums and forceful guitars. Despite a line-up change from a quartet to a duo, what they lack in numbers they more than make up for with their fiery cuts and fiercely delivered lyrics.

Speaking on the track, Carlotta confesses; My boyfriend broke up with me and I turned 30 years old in the same week. This was the first song I could write after months of feeling absolutely devastated, immobile and pathetic. I just wanted to get better but I just couldn’t, I couldn’t cope with this eternal race of being happier and better and cleaner and healthier”.

The track is worlds away from their more stripped-back debut cuts (‘Davey Crockett’, ‘Trippy Gum’), and perfectly demonstrates their evolution, into a more confident self-assured band.

Along with the release of ‘En Forma’, Hinds have announced a string of UK tour dates in early 2025.
