‘Creature of Mine’ is the newly-released single from British singer-songwriter Billie Marten.
The track, including an ethereal nature-based music video directed by Joe Wheatley, appears on Marten’s upcoming third album Flora Fauna, set to be released 21 May.
Marten builds on the gentle, folksy sound established in her previous albums with a more mature feel, featuring a smoky bass line and increased percussion which helps further the lyrical message of the singer learning to break free from toxic relationships, largely by returning to nature.
Throughout the song, Marten’s trademark warm vibrato carries the listener through her impactful, personal lyrics: “I’m choosing you because you tell me my worth / The creator and the design” and “Making love’s not enough / So before we die / We leave tonight”.
Describing the single, Marten explains: “It’s an end of the world, post-apocalyptic scenario- you get to choose one thing, one person to leave it with.
“It’s a love song to a stranger and a polite request to momentarily leave Earth when it’s all too much.”
Following the prior release of lead album single ‘Garden of Eden’, ‘Creature of Mine’ only continues to excite fans that the upcoming Flora Fauna could further cement Marten’s place as one of the best singer-songwriters of this generation.
