Track Review: ColourBlind // Accepting April

True Northern rock and roll, born from grit and anger, is something only few bands master in a career. Liverpool trio Accepting April are on their way to accomplishing this, with ‘ColourBlind’ as a prime example.

The track opens with explosions, adding some layers and precision that are reminiscent of ‘Tyrants’ by Catfish and the Bottlemen. It is this opening that adds an element of enticement to the track, right from the lingering bass to the crashing cymbals of the perfected drum background.

The rock heavy vocals then begin, among which are the poetic but equally colloquial lyrics; examples of these are “You’re pale white / You make me feel alright.” The song tells the story of a hopeless boy in love, creating a song to fit perfectly on a soundtrack to some teenage romantic comedy – like, where is the Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging for the next generation of pre-teens? ‘ColourBlind’ is a decent track from this young band; it’s baffling to think that it isn’t featured on a breakthrough debut album – at least, not yet anyway.
