Track Review: Body Talk // Foxes

A freshly gained world record. Check. A critically acclaimed, top 10 debut album. Check. A performance spot on Britain’s longest running science fiction show. Check. Southampton born singer Foxes has compiled an enviable list of achievements, and now she is looking to ricochet back into our eardrums with her new synth-driven pop track, ‘Body Talk’.

Harking back to the 80’s, this new direction is both refreshing and a reinvigoration, marking a definitive shift from her ethereal pop beginnings. Combining nostalgic synth-pop with dreamy vocals, images of The Human League or Blondie float by. However, a very 21st century message of feministic empowerment exudes from the hypnotic lyrics, stating “Now I know / I don’t need him”. Rather than sounding like a song that should be hidden away with the neon articles that inspired it, ‘Body Talk’ breathes life into a much loved era, nestling the contemporary with the nostalgic.
