Track Review: Bird // Billie Marten

Ethereal, haunting, and delicate, ‘Bird’ by Billie Marten is a sensational single. At just sixteen years old, Billie sings with the weight and emotion of a soul much older than her own. The North Yorkshire lass has just released her latest EP ‘Ribbon’, which she wrote whilst juggling her GCSEs. She has supported Lucy Rose on tour, as well as being nominated for the BBCs Sound of 2016.

‘Bird’ is a mellow folk tune, balanced by the soft angelic voice of Billie, which is complemented by the enchantingly sorrowful lyrics, “Hope is a distance unreached / Ink on her skin incomplete / And the faint sound of friends / As she neared to the end she had peace”. Ed Sheeran tweeted ‘Bird is stunning’, and it is true; breathy and captivating, ‘Bird’ is beautiful.
