It’s rare to feel like you’ve gone ten rounds with Tyson after listening to a track. What’s even rarer is to actually enjoy such an experience. However, Canadian noise punk trio Metz have a distinct knack of excelling on both of these fronts. Off the back of their bludgeoning self titled debut album, the band have released ‘Acetate’ as a taster plucked from their upcoming sophomore effort II.
With enough feedback to deafen your ears from the first listen, ‘Acetate’ exists as a proverbial uppercut to the jaw and right hook to the temple, with proceedings initiated by a trademark low slung bass line that perfectly captures Metz at their grimy best. The scuzz soaked abrasion of their debut makes a triumphant return, with the band managing to dig out a chorus that worms its way into your frontal lobe whether you like it or not. If this storming single is anything to go by, ‘II’ is set to be just as frenetic as its snarling predecessor.
