I Am Not Okay with This (Netflix)
From the mind that brought you The End of the F***ing World comes an all new dark comedy-drama – I Am Not Okay with This. Charles Forsman is clearly doing something right because this is his second graphic novel to be adapted for television and it lives up to the hype.
Sydney Novak (Sophia Lillis) is an angst-ridden teenager grappling with her father’s suicide in an excruciatingly sleepy American town. Like many of us wished in our teenage years, her frustration begins to manifest itself in telekinetic powers. As she begins to lose her best-friend Dina (Sofia Bryant) to the world of boys and popularity, Sydney must learn to control her ever-growing powers with the help of town oddball Stanley Barber (Wyatt Oleff).
Her grief is compounded by predictable teenage torments: popularity, friends and sexuality, but the seamless blend of science fiction into a coming-of-age tale shines a new light on old problems. Though undeniably American, there is something strangely British about the dry humour and long awkward pauses. The finale will undoubtedly blow your mind and it perfectly sets the stage for a second season.
Don’t F*** with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (Netflix)
If you are tired of the gentle monotony of self-isolation, look no further than Don’t F*** with Cats. There are some shows the less you know about the better – this is one of them. We will try not to give too much away, but even in 2020, a time when you thought nothing else could possibly shock you, this will. Not for the faint-hearted, the documentary begins with a video of two kittens being sadistically murdered. It is worth noting the actual murder is not shown, but the moments leading up to it are just as distressing.
The three part true crime thriller follows an unlikely group of virtual vigilanties as they do everything in their power to track down the psychotic kitten killer, putting themselves at risk to enforce rule zero on the internet – don’t f**** with cats.
