9. Patti Smith – Pyramid Stage, Sunday

Playing a choice selection of tracks from her seminal album Horses, the reigning queen of punk delivered a truly mesmerising performance. Her thunderous version of Van Morrison’s ‘Gloria’ was as awe-inspiring as ever, and the inclusion of ‘People Have The Power’ spread hands-in-the-air joy throughout her adoring crowd. But the most eye-opening moment was, of course, when she introduced Dalai Lama – no less – onto the stage to celebrate his 80th birthday. Incidentally, the sun came out just as he gave his speech to the crowd… just sayin’. All in all, singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the Dalai Lama, led by Patti Smith and her band, is not quite the way one expects to spend a Sunday morning.
