3. Men’s Needs // Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever

Yet another Cribs tune exposing the Jarmans’ masterful use of the tongue-in-cheek in song. ‘Men’s Needs’ is arguably one of the band’s signature songs, a quintessential Cribs tune that takes all the very best parts of the band and squeezes it into just over three minutes: a (now iconic) short, addictive riff, a chorus soaked with angst and aggression, a pumping bass line, and, of course, a sense of self-awareness. The song is a melodic satire involving the various ways women can view men, with the Jarmans taking a light and playful jab at gender stereotypes as a whole in their trademark sing-shout verses: “The fact that men’s needs, men’s needs/ are found on greed, found on greed / a man’s needs, a man’s needs / are lost on me…”
